The symphonic programme has been at the heart of the südtirol festival merano . meran from the very beginning. The concert experience begins on the subtropical promenade: accompanied by festive music, you enter the elegant Kurhaus via a red carpet and then reach the magnificent Kursaal. The südtirol festival merano . meran is thus housed in one of the most beautiful concert halls in the Alps - and this is another reason why world-class orchestras, classical music stars and top ensembles have been performing here for four decades.
The liaison of südtirol festival merano . meran and baroque music has existed ever since the beginnings of the festival. In the year 2000, in the course of his Bach Cantata Pilgrimage, John Eliot Gardiner performed in the Municipal Parish Church together with the English Baroque Soloists and the Monteverdi Choir; he played Bach cantatas for the Archiv record label of the Deutsche Grammophon. Cecilia Bartoli also visited the südtirol festivall with her Vivaldi programme. Today an entire concert series, held in the most suggestive locations of Merano and environs, is dedicated to barocco.
The presence of jazz and world music during the südtirol festival merano . meran opens up new doors for a variety of exciting musical landscapes. The musical programme offered in the art-nouveau style Theatre and the Kursaal ranges from international and alpine folk to tango and rock 'n' roll and hosting world stars such as Cameron Carpenter, Tommy Emmanuel, Giora Feidman, Egberto Gismonti, Martin Grubinger, Friedrich Gulda, Roger Hodgson, Daniel Hope, Nigel Kennedy, Gidon Kremer, Ute Lemper, Bobby McFerrin, Noa, Michael Nyman, Joja Wendt, Joe Zawinul.
Refined chamber music in outstanding ambience: on Saturday morning the südtirol festival merano . meran offers the ideal way to start the weekend. Then the Pavillon des Fleurs or, in case of high demand, the nearby Kursaal host matinées and musical readings. Some of the performers so far: Klaus Maria Brandauer, Bruno Ganz, the Emerson, Hagen and Tokyo String Quartet, Fazil Say, Patricia Kopatchinskaja, the guitar legend Pepe Romero and the outstanding violinist Daniel Hope.
Mysterious, touching and devotional: Magical, religious and spiritual sounds in the churches of the Merano area.
A feast for the voice: The südtirol festival merano . meran dedicates this concert series to a cappella music and invites top ensembles from all over the world. If you want to enjoy vocal music in a very special atmosphere, these südtirol festival merano . meran concerts are just the thing for you. After all, this series takes place in extraordinary concert venues in the Merano region, such as the large Knights' Hall at Tyrol Castle, the Painting Hall at Scena Castle, Castel Katzenzungen or the parish church in Niederlana with its impressive Schnatterpeck altar, which is one of the most important art treasures of South Tyrol's late Gothic period.
Young ensembles and soloists present different programs at attractive venues and come in conversation with the audience.
