Merano Music Festival

südtirol classic festival

The Merano Music Festival is held annually in the idyllic city of Merano and environs, representing an unrivalled musical highlight in South Tyrol. The stage for these performances is the tranquil spa town Merano/Meran on Passiria/Passer River. Already Empress Sisi loved Merano’s mild climate, healing spa and inspiring vistas ranging from palms to mountains. Today this city of gardens and thermal baths has established itself as a popular destination for visitors from all over the world.

Merano and music are closely connected and this has been so since the Middle Ages. Once upon a time, the city was the holiday home for musical leaders such as Clara Schumann, Cosima Wagner, Richard Strauss, Franz Lehàr, Max Reger or Arnold Schönberg. Today, the Merano Music Weeks offers a highlight for music enthusiasts and really everyone who is looking for a sound experience for all senses in South Tyrol.

The performances bring the city to life for a celebration of music in its many forms. Top musicians, orchestras, conductors and soloists from across the world come together to interpret works by the greatest composers of all times. This way Merano Festival continues writing history of music ever since its beginnings in 1986. Today the Merano Music Weeks inspire about 12,000 visitors each year transporting them into a world of sounds between Alps and palms.

the magic of vocal music

If you long to experience the South Tyrolean Classic Festival in the festive atmosphere of castles and churches in Merano and environs, then you are well-advised to visit the a-cappella concerts in Tirol Castle, Schenna Castle or the Parish Church of Lana.

The Merano Music Weeks also include soirees which are held in the concert hall of Tirol Castle. This concert hall is praised for its unique acoustic sound, created by the hall’s extraordinary architecture: a freely hanging wooden structure.
