barocco
The liaison of südtirol festival merano . meran and baroque music has existed ever since the beginnings of the festival. In the year 2000, in the course of his Bach Cantata Pilgrimage, John Eliot Gardiner performed in the Municipal Parish Church together with the English Baroque Soloists and the Monteverdi Choir; he played Bach cantatas for the Archiv record label of the Deutsche Grammophon. Cecilia Bartoli also visited the südtirol festivall with her Vivaldi programme. Today an entire concert series, held in the most suggestive locations of Merano and environs, is dedicated to barocco.

Soirees in Tirol Castle
Every Thursday in mid-summer the ancestral castle of the Counts of Tyrol is brought to life, opening up its doors for music from all the world. The Soirees celebrated their debut in 1990, in occasion of the 850th anniversary of Tirol Castle. Ever since, all major music ensembles have performed here. Today, the Soirees offer all kinds of musical styles, ranging from medieval music to jazz. The premises are unique due to their extraordinary acoustics: the concert hall is set in a free-hanging wooden structure, creating a sound quality, similar to that of a string instrument.
